A police dispatcher is accused of using text messages to warn a drug dealer about narcotics investigations.

A Lexington County dispatcher used text messages to warn drug dealers about investigations.

There’s allegedly been a mole in the Lexington County police department. And, this time it’s not a crooked cop. Rather, a dispatcher who is accused of giving a drug dealer a warning about police investigations.

In a report by The State, former Batesburg-Leesville dispatcher Shannon Gomez is charged with misconduct in office after officials accused her of texting information about narcotics investigations to a drug dealer.

Officials say they were suspicious of the 31-year-old Gomez after federal agents were involved in a crackdown on cocaine trafficking in Batesburg-Leesville.

Police Chief Wallace Oswald says Gomez had worked as a dispatcher for about 18 months. She was fired in conjunction with her arrest on Monday.
