If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen…isn’t that how the saying goes? Well, South Carolina’s head chef at the Governor’s Mansion is taking the heat for some questionable business practices.
In a report by Midland’s Connect, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s chef has been ordered to stop doing sideline catering work at the Governor’s Mansion complex after The Associated Press questioned his use of official email to handle and recruit new clients.
Not only that, but Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey says chef Geoff Sandifer has to reimburse the state for any monies he used of state resources.
Not many people are talking about it, but the governor’s office did say they provided nearly 2,000 pages of emails and other documents detailing lengthy communications with catering clients on Sandifer’s official email account.
State Ethics Commission Executive Director Herb Hayden says using resources such as email for a personal, family or business profit can bring a $2,000 fine.
Ouch!
