Nickelodeon Theatre is counting down days til the move to Main Street

Columbia's favorite independent film house has been eagerly planning and fund raising for their move onto downtown Main Street. After all that, they are oh so close.

The new Nickelodeon will take over the old Fox Theatre space on Main Street.

The folks at Columbia’s indy theatre have had big dreams for their little piece of heaven for years now. And, today, we are closer than ever to the big move that will position them in the heart of downtown on Main Street.

A WIS report says the Nickelodeon will soon reside in the old Fox Theater. They are about halfway to a $5 million fund-raising goal.

“Getting to move to this space will be totally transformational as an organization, our current space we love it, but we’ve outgrown it,” said Nickelodeon’s executive director Andy Smith.

The Nick will run seven days a week, joining several other new Main Street tenants that have moved in during the past year.

“We’ve already seen great new neighbors move in like Mast General Store, Cowboy and TAPPS art center,” said Smith. “It’s our expectation that once we’re here we’ll see even more.”

Smith says they hope to have at least one of their theaters open to the public by January, but, in the meantime, the Nick will be taking part in Main Street’s Mingle and Jingle event Thursday night by showing holiday movies on the front of the building.
